Gabby Giffords launches July 4th tour attacking the 2nd Amendment

Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly are spending the upcoming holiday week on tour attempting to rewrite history.

Firstly, they are going to try and rewrite their own personal history and go from gun grabbing crusaders to people who value and appreciate the 2nd Amendment.

Secondly, they are going to try and rewrite Manchin-Toomey and try to convince gun owners in America that it was a non infringing fully positive bill.

And finally, they are, like most gun grabbing activists are going to try and rewrite history to make the 2nd Amendment about muskets and hunting and not about the fail-safe measure against tyranny.

Ever since leaving congress after getting shot in the head, Gabrielle Giffords has been on a crusade to see the Second Amendment curtailed and the freedom it allows to fall victim to government regulation.  She uses, ironically, the straw man argument of the “powerful gun lobby” whenever legislation or opinion doesn’t go her way.

After the failure of Manchin-Toomey, Giffords vowed to remove all those who would dare stand for the Constitution and liberty from Congress so that she could force her personal agenda forward.

Mark my words: if we cannot make our communities safer with the Congress we have now, we will use every means available to make sure we have a different Congress, one that puts communities’ interests ahead of the gun lobby’s. To do nothing while others are in danger is not the American way.

Giffords likes to play fast and loose with the truth.  On one hand she quotes that 90% of the American people were for this bill (a lie often enough repeated but never verified) but on the other hand claims that the Senators feared the gun lobby.  Using good ole Thomas Paine like common sense, there is NO LOBBY in America strong enough to sway a Senator to vote against 90 PERCENT of the constituency.  The idea that Senators had the courage and in her mind audacity to stand up against her just doesn’t compute so she rails on about the “boogeyman” of the gun lobby.

But now, on her tour, Giffords is trying a new tact.  You can see her and her husband shooting guns and talking a good game. In an op-ed for USA today she writes:

“I’m a patriot, and I believe the right to bear arms is a definitive part of our American heritage.  For centuries, that right has come with the responsibility to use our guns safely and ensure that our families, our communities and our children are protected. Generations of gun owners have taught their sons and daughters that it takes as much patience and skill to be a good shot as it does to be a good steward of a powerful weapon.”

The irony is that while she says she believes in the 2nd Amendment as a part of the American heritage that goes back for centuries, she now says that the American people are either too lazy, ignorant or stupid in order to keep that right without the government having control of it.  She is spending the entire July 4th holiday, the day America declared in writing and backed with guns that they would not be ruled by tyrants, telling people that the 2nd Amendment can only be exercised with more government control.  Control being the operative word.

While she may continue to praise the benevolent side of Manchin-Toomey and is specifically going to states to attack Senators who voted against the bill, here’s a quick look at the more nefarious aspects of it:

Manchin-Toomey was presented with three myths;  the bill “does not infringe on individual rights,” it only puts background checks on gun shows and online sales, and it actually “expands the 2nd Amendment.”

Individuals right to conduct trade?  The bill clouds sales and transfers, limiting the latter to select family members listed in Section 122 of the bill, and limiting private sales to certain specific conditions set forth elsewhere in the bill.

Gun show and online background checks? Not only at gun shows, but via any publication.  An ad to sell your shotgun in the paper?  That requires a background check or you will go to jail.

Expand 2nd Amendment rights?  The bill in Section 128 states:  a person shall be “entitled” to transport a firearm “in a vehicle” if “the firearm is not directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle. Some good that will do if you get carjacked.

Finally, on this trip, Giffords will use the first two red herrings in order to make it seem that the 2nd Amendment has not kept up with the times.  That back when the Constitution was written the founding fathers didn’t know what an “assault rifle” was and as such didn’t put in government oversight.

She is going around the country on its birthday trying to tell the American people that an inalienable right that was enumerated in the Constitution to limit government power now needs government oversight to make sure it doesn’t get out of control.

Let that sink in while you are flipping burgers and watching fireworks with your loved ones this holiday weekend.  There are people out there, actively working to rewrite American history and with it scratch out the inalienable rights that guarantee your freedom.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

  1. While she has suffered severe brain damage and is now an impaired adult with learning and emotional problems I am not.
    The Firearm laws ,the fire arm nor the ammo used in her shooting were the problem not the problem, the blame and the single focus of this should be the shooter that decided this would be a good place to shot people.
    When the bank gets robbed I don’t blame the firearms manufacturer, the government that built the road or the car company that the robber drove away in, no I blame the free willed human that used these tools to decide to rob the bank.
    To Gabby Gifford I feel sorry that your husband allows you to be abused like this in fraud enterprise that will leave others open to crime and death.

    I refrained from questioning Giffords mental capacity because I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt that her disdain for the Constitution and her complete lack of grasping the ineffectiveness that the gun control she champions would have to actually stop crime is just who she is.

    But perhaps you are right. Obama, Bloomberg and their ilk have no issues exploiting tragedy to further their own agenda so why would it come as any surprise that the gun grabbing machine got a hold of Kelly and he’s using his wife as a sock puppet now?

    Either way, the fact that Giffords keeps bringing up Newtown and then tries to link it to Manchin-Toomey that would have not down anything to stop the tragedy had it been in place then, is disingenuous, dishonest and morally repulsive.

  3. Is Gabby competent enough to handle a firearm safely after such a traumatic brain injury? Seems to me she could snap at any time. If mental status were an issue, she probably wouldn’t qualify to own a firearm of any type

    • Great point…when speaking about people who are logical and not hypocrites. But as with Obama sending his children to a school with armed guards, or Bloomberg taking the subway with a detachment of armed bodyguards, gun grabbers only think the law should apply to other people, not them.

  4. It’s plain to see that Ms. Giffords is not at all competent to lobby for anything, and not able to form a complete thought when speaking on any subject. It’s a shame what happened to her, but being used as a prop by the loser she married is adding insult to injury. Kelly is using his disabled wife to keep himself in the news. One can only hope that karma catches up with him and he suffers for it.
